Observe birds and animals from the large windows overlooking the wetland where food and water attract wildlife. Exhibits feature the plants and animals of the riverside with emphasis on historic uses and ecosystems. Outside herb and xeriscape demonstration gardens are located adjacent to the facility.
The Wetlands
The Nature Center was originally designed to overlook the wetlands of one of the oxbows which once existed along the Animas River. The wetlands were constructed and the wildlife has inhabited them. The wetlands serve as a refuge for wildlife and provide people a unique viewing opportunity from the Nature Center and specific points on the trail. Come and enjoy this wonderful hideaway in Animas Park
While visiting the Nature Center, don't forget to visit the Herb and Xeriscape Gardens.
Join Education Specialist Donna Thatcher and the Tuesday Birders for a guided bird walk through Animas and Berg Parks. Plan for a leisurely stroll of one to two miles and don’t forget your binoculars. Come early for coffee or stay late and bring food for lunch in the observation room.
